Born in Los Angeles, novelist and poet Janice L. Smith-Hill, writing as Lee Orlich Bertram, earned her BA, MA, and PhD at the University of California, Irvine. After a successful career in K-12 public education as a teacher and administrator, she earned her JD at the University of Idaho and began the practice of law in the states of Idaho and Washington. In addition to her law practice, Lee teaches business law and the law of international trade at Washington State University. She is multilingual, hails from an immigrant family, is well-traveled, and enjoys reading, sitting on corporate boards of directors, archaeology and Egyptology, and playing her piano. Lee’s nom de plume honors both sides of her family.
Insistence, Persistence, and Resistance is Lee’s debut collection of poetry and includes selections reflecting a lifetime of deeply personal observations about and reactions to the highs and lows, individuals, and events that have greatly impacted her life.
Lee currently makes her home in Idaho with her husband of many years, Dr. Jack Hill, and their feather and fur children.
