Joseph S. Salemi has published poems, translations, essays, reviews, and scholarly articles in over one hundred journals throughout the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. His published scholarship has touched upon writers as diverse as Chaucer, Machiavelli, Bembo, Castiglione, Blake, Kipling, Crane, Henley, Ernest Dowson, H.H. Munro, Willa Cather, and William Gaddis.

His previous books of poetry are Formal Complaints, Nonsense Couplets, Masquerade, The Lilacs on Good Friday, and Skirmishes. He is a recipient of a Herbert Musurillo Scholarship, a Lane Cooper Fellowship, an N.E.H. Fellowship, the 1993 Classical and Modern Literature Award, and was a four-time finalist for the Howard Nemerov Prize. He is a monthly commentator and essayist for the online journal The Pennsylvania Review and the editor and publisher of TRINACRIA. Salemi teaches in the Department of Classical Languages at Hunter College, C.U.N.Y. He is the grandson of the Sicilian poet and translator Rosario Previti (1882–1967).
