September Salutations
Introduction
It's fall, y'all! While you're hosting poetry readings far and wide, we're preparing our Winter 2024 issue of The Orchards. If you're familiar with the journal, you know that our issues have no official theme. However, we like to create a cohesive reading experience with each issue, so this year, we're sharing some tips for how we want this one to feel.
When we think of The Orchards: Winter 2024, we think of...
Burnt citrus | fog light | tapetum lucidum | bannisters | sputtering candle | sleep paralysis | dreamscape | spice tea | kitschy mugs | plastic spiders | neighborhood at night | strange encounters | vinyl records | Benadryl | dolls in the attic | liminal spaces | cats and crows | choir music | bird-cry before rain | bending shadows | cinnamon and clove | Christmas tinsel | ringlet curls | imaginary friends | roasting duck | bending shadows | love spells | old dogs | ransom notes | headlights | mannequins | carnival games | pumpkin pie | seance parlor tricks | Grandma's perfume | falling down in the grass | cryptozoology | neon tunnels | heart lockets | the second wife | spiked apple cider | crushed velvet | falconry | Spirit Halloween | mystery casseroles | carnivorous plants | black lipstick | uncle's tractor | Christmas Eve Mass | porcelain heirloom | ghost waltz | upscale Italian restaurant | slow jazz | brandy | farmer's market | riding in the back of a truck | disturbing urban legends | snowed in | work boots | candy stash | fresh laundry | costume jewelry
