Kasey Jones is a poet, lyricist, librettist, and educator raised in Oklahoma, where open sky and red earth continue to shape her work. Her writing explores place and inheritance, drawing on the cultural and emotional landscapes of the American interior.
Her poem “She Must Go,” included in this collection, became the title track of a critically praised jazz album performed and written by Grammy-, Oscar-, and Tony-winning artists. Her poetry and lyrics have appeared in film and theater productions, earning a World Soundtrack Award nomination. Her original musical Angel of Broadway premiered in concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, and her children’s Christmas musical toured theaters across Ireland.
Five of the poems in this collection first appeared in Red Dirt Forum, published by Red Dirt Press. Her work also appears in What Is All This Sweet Work?, the fourth Vita Brevis anthology.
From the Cat’s Mouth is her debut full-length collection. She lives in Oklahoma, balancing writing, teaching, and family life on the same red earth that raised her.
