AI Guidelines

Implicit Agreement

In response to the increased utilization of AI tools, language learning models, and the like, many publishers and printers have begun instituting AI policies to protect the interests of their authors, readers, and the wider community.

The following guidelines address AI use in all work published by, or considered for publication by, Kelsay Books and The Orchards Poetry Journal. By sending work to us or otherwise affiliating with Kelsay Books, an author agrees they understand and will abide by these guidelines in all their dealings with our press.

Kelsay Books’ AI Guidelines

Kelsay Books values human-driven work. We reserve the right to revoke any contract at any time on suspicion of AI use that we believe violates our values or harms the reputation of our press. This includes titles we have already released, should the problematic AI use come to light after publication.

Sparing, judicious use of AI tools may be acceptable if the content was originally created by the author and is used to supplement the author’s revision process. Following Amazon KDP’s distinction between AI-generated vs. AI-assisted content, authors should send no AI-generated content to Kelsay Books or The Orchards Poetry Journal.

If you are concerned that some of your poetry goes beyond the scope of AI-assistance as explained by Amazon KDP, kindly remove it from any manuscript submitted to or in progress with us. Please respect our time by not describing your AI use and asking us to evaluate it for you. “If in doubt, leave it out.”
