Sandra Becker was recently (October 2014) selected as Bucks County Poet Laureate by Judges Kim Addonizio and Kasey Jueds. Becker’s poems have been published in Barefoot Review, Buddhist Poetry Review, Comstock Review, Concrete Wolf, Flesh & Bone, Main Street Rag, Anthology of Featured Poets/Moonstone Poetry Series, Out of Line, Pentimento, Raving Dove, Red Booth Review, Schuylkill Valley Journal of the Arts, U.S. 1 Worksheets, Wild River Review, Wordgathering and many others. She has published three other books of poetry: Imperfect Matter (WordTech, 2013), At the Well of Flowers (Virtual Artists’ Collective, 2011), and Foreign Bodies (Carolina Wren Press, 2004). She hopes this book, Dread Islands, will serve as a window into the daily lives and challenges that individuals with special needs and their families face.

On September 27, 2014, Becker’s poem, “A City Girl Feeds Country Cows,” was read on Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac. In 2000, she received a first place award from the National League of American Pen Women, Simi Valley Branch for her poem, “Honor the Stones.” She feels immensely blessed to be part of the community of amazing and gifted poets of Bucks and Montgomery Counties. She grew up in New York, lived and now lives in Doylestown, PA.. She’s amazed by the serendipity that led her to Bucks County without knowing of the richness of its poetry community.
