Since 2000, Winston Salem, North Carolina has been home. Sandra Brodkin Dreis is a native New Yorker, graduate of Wheatley High School and Hofstra University with a multi-faceted career in the Performing Arts. She danced in the music video, “Beast of Burden” with Bette Midler and Mick Jagger, modeled skiwear on Oprah, and served cups of stale coffee as a waitress on The Edge of Night. Sandra has choreographed for theatre, film and television and served on the roster of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) as Teaching Artist in residence.

Sandra taught Creative Drama for Winston Salem/Forsyth County for 12 years on The Arts Connection Team. She’s a proud member of Winston Salem Writers, The Academy of American Poets, and The North Carolina Writer’s Network. Currently, she keeps her feet on stage for the local senior community as a Snappy Tapper. In addition, her Jack Russell Terrier, Jillie Bean, trains in Agility and keeps the author in motion. Dreis’ daughter, Haley, is a writer/entrepreneur living in LA.

Dreis’ main commitments are environmental, human and animal rights causes. Ecowarriors: Book One: The Bluffs of Baraboo (iUniverse, 2015) is a work of YA fiction and her first novel. This eco-thriller, set in Wisconsin, received a Silver Nautilus Award in 2016. The Kirkus Review called it “An engaging, light-hearted read that offers a profoundly powerful message about the environment.” Her first poetry chapbook, Cultured Pearls, was published by Kelsay Books in January 2024.
