Bill Christophersen grew up in the Bronx and studied poetry at Columbia University, where he received a doctorate in American literature. He is the author of six previous poetry collections—Two Men Fighting in a Landscape (Kelsay Books, 2015), The Dicer’s Cup (Kelsay Books, 2017), Tableau with Crash Helmet (Hanging Loose Press, 2018), Where Truth Lies (Kelsay Books, 2020), Why the Gods Don’t Get It (Kelsay Books, 2021), and Its Shadow Rakes the Grass (Kelsay Books, 2023)—as well as two literary studies, The Apparition in the Glass: Charles Brockden Brown’s American Gothic (University of Georgia Press, 1993) and Resurrecting Leather-Stocking: Pathfinding in Jacksonian America (University of South Carolina Press, 2019).

His book reviews and critical essays have appeared in Newsweek, Poetry, The New Leader, The New York Times Book Review, and The American Book Review. His poems have won prizes from Kansas Quarterly, Rhino, and The Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation, and have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He lives in New York and plays traditional and bluegrass fiddle.
