Maurine Haltiner has a BA and an MA from the University of Utah in English with minors in music and linguistics. In 2004 her manuscript A Season and a Time received the first-place publication prize from the Utah State Poetry Society. She also has one published YA novel, Truth Windows. Maurine was a contributing poet to Nine One One: Poems for September 11 and the UCTE Journal. In both 2012 and 2014 she received the first-place prize in the top category of the NFSPS Poetry Competition.
Maurine was editor of the annual Utah State Poetry Society Panorama publication for three years. As workshop chair for the Utah State Poetry Society, she organized four workshops a year, for five years, each featuring a local poet. She has also been a presenter at a Utah State Poetry Society workshop. She has read at local Delta Kappa Gamma chapters and state conventions, and participated in Rumi poetry festivals. In 2011 Maurine was chosen to join a semester poetry class at Westminster College taught by visiting poet Jill McDonough. Also in 2011 she teamed with poet Terry VanVliet of Los Angeles for a reading hosted by Alpine Art. Maurine was a 2012 workshop presenter at the Redrock Writers seminar in St. George, UT. In fall 2015 and 2016, she joined poets Lisa Gustavson and David Knowlton for readings at the Salt Lake City Public Library.
