Carol Alfus is a retired teacher, community volunteer, gardener, and enthusiastic traveler. She has always enjoyed writing—stories, articles, letters—but poetry is her favorite form of written expression. She loves the way a poem can capture a moment, tell a story, or express a range of emotions from wonder to anger, grief to joy, and beyond. Her poetry is informed and inspired by personal experiences and memories, current events and the ingenuity of the natural world.
Alfus loves sharing her poetry at live events and connecting with audiences. Her poems have been aired on the radio, published in print and online, received recognition from the Illinois State Poetry Society, Poets and Patrons, and Highland Park Poetry, and been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
