Davidson Garrett is an actor and poet who lives in New York City. A member of SAG/AFRTRA and Actors Equity, he worked in theater, film, and TV for several years. Davidson trained for the theater at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, studied acting with Alice Spivak, and is a graduate of The City College of New York with an M.S. in Education.
His poetry is published in many journals, including The New York Times, The Episcopal New Yorker, Xavier Review, Paterson Literary Review, Big City Lit, First Literary Review East, 2 Bridges Review, The Ekphastic Review, Marco Polo Arts Magazine, Third Wednesday, Stillwater Review, Sensations Magazine, Reverie Magazine, Thorny Locust, Nerve Lantern, Impossible Archetype, and Podium, the literary journal of the 92nd Street Y. His previous collections are King Lear of the Taxi (Advent Purple Press, 2006), Arias of a Rhapsodic Spirit (Kelsay Books, 2020), and Cabaletta: Poems of a New York City Taxi Driver (Finishing Line Press, 2022).
Davidson drove a yellow taxi off and on for forty years to subsidize his artistic pursuits. In 2019, he was the subject of the short film Davidson Garrett: The Taxicab Poet, which was screened at the PEN World Voices Festival in NYC. Davidson has had five short plays performed at the annual Boog City Poets’ Theater Festival in NYC’s East Village. As a spoken word poet, he has been featured at the legendary Cornelia Street Café, Joe’s Pub, and the Nuyorican Poets Café. He is a longtime member of the Worker Writers School.
