Peggy Heitmann grew up in Columbus, Georgia, where her love of storytelling and observation first took root. She now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband and two adored cats, Cleopatra and Pharaoh.
For more than three decades, Peggy has been writing poetry that explores family history, love, nature, gratitude, and her lifelong fascination with Vincent van Gogh. In this collection, she turns her poetic lens toward one of the most personal “journeys” of her life, sharing reflections on facing breast cancer on two separate occasions. Through honesty, resilience, and moments of unexpected grace, her poems offer a shared human perspective on illness, healing, and hope. Peggy’s writing seeks to find meaning in life’s joys and its challenges, inviting readers to pause, reflect, and connect with their own experiences.
