A lifelong native of NW Ohio and SE Michigan, Sharon Rose-Kourous taught high school literature and language arts, spending most of her career at a suburban public school. A single parent, she finds her poetry arises from lawn-mower fumes and dust-bunnies under the beds; from dirty dishes and unwashed windows; from the parenting moments and the hours spent grading essays; it is tempered by the quiet stubborn, stoic, and repressed ethos of the Midwest family and neighbors who molded her childhood. It is poetry fed on sunsets and cornfields, snow-sifting skies and weeds growing by the wayside. As an escape from teaching and parenting, her poetry may have saved her sanity. It found wide-spread publication in print and online. Things Have Disappeared is her first full-length collection, and will soon be followed by a second, now in the hopper with Cornerstone Press.
