Born into a logger’s family in Wiscasset, “The Prettiest Village in Maine,” Judith Ann Levison illuminates the dark side of its youth. Many poems deal with the challenges she and others faced: lack of education and love, abuse, alcoholism, and poverty. A supportive high school English teacher and a poem in The New Yorker at age fifteen, led to degrees from Mount Holyoke College, Hollins College, and Drexel University. Often returning to her family and the natural beauty of Maine, she maintains compassion in her work for those who could not leave the burdens of their families for a better life.
Her first book, Cruel Roses, was published in 2018. The second book, Fallen Petals, was published in the fall of 2020. An abstract watercolorist, she lives in Doylestown, PA.
