Deanie Rowan LaPlante-Blank was born and bloomed near Chautauqua Institution, the internationally acclaimed arts community in upstate New York. Oldest of two daughters of first-generation parents—her mother, Carmella Rowan Conti, of Italian descent, and her father, Joseph George Rowan. Irish. She is an honors graduate of Public Health Nursing and Clinical Social Work from Syracuse University. Following her retirement as Director of a Community Mental Health Center in Connecticut and National Consultant with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), Deanie began the serious pursuit of life as a poet. Her work appears in several literary journals and anthologies and has been set to music and performed. Deanie is a scholarship recipient from W.B. Yeats International Summer School in Sligo, Ireland.
