Cathy Socarras Ferrell is a poet, educator, and native Floridian. The granddaughter of Cuban immigrants, she finds inspiration in storytelling and the Sandhill cranes in her yard. Cathy credits her background in early childhood education and foundational literacy with having a critical impact on her work. She enjoys the playful side of language and how letter sounds interact with each other. She is obsessed with the sensory.
Cathy is an avid proponent of literary citizenship. She is an alumna of the Tupelo Press 30/30 Project and an associate editor at table//feast Literary Magazine. Cathy holds a BA in English from Florida International University (Miami), an AA in Dance Performance from Valencia College (Orlando), as well as count-less hours of continuing professional learning in Education and the Science of Reading. She has served the community as a public school educator since 2006 and is currently a high school literacy coach.
