Jonathan Clark Patrick retired from the professional services/ consulting business in 2020 and returned to writing poetry—something he had put aside in his 30s. In addition to his interest in history, literature, and poetry, he is all-in on American Jazz music—hard bop, post bop, and fusion.
His first book, Songs Presidential (Kelsay Books, 2022), is a series of biographies in verse about American history and the American Presidency from Lincoln to Obama through which he threaded a personal memoir of growing up in the Nashoba Valley region of Massachusetts. His second collection, a sequel to Songs Presidential, entitled Out of Nashoba (Kelsay Books, 2024), continues the personal narrative he began in Songs Presidential. Selections from Out of Nashoba appeared in The Prairie Review, Spring 2024.
