Elizabeth Poreba—aka Yamma to her three grandchildren—is a retired New York City High School English teacher, now reasonably busy as a foot soldier for climate causes. She spends most of her time in New Lebanon, NY with John Poreba, her husband of more than five decades.
Her work has appeared from time to time in Commonweal. She has published two collections of poems, Vexed and Self Help (Wipf and Stock, 2015 and 2017), and two chapbooks, The Family Calling and New Lebanon (Finishing Line Press, 2011 and 2023). Her work is also in This Full Green Hour, an anthology composed of work by six of the O’Clock Poets (Sonopo Press, 2008).
