Kathleen A Dale’s prize-winning poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies. She is the author of three chapbooks, two full-length books of poetry, and an autobiography. She has been interviewed by various literary journals and has won several best-of-issue awards.

In 2022, Dale’s poem, “The Final Thing” (now titled “First Dive”), placed first in the Kelsay Books’ Women’s Poetry Contest in partnership with the International Women’s Writing Guild. In 2021, her poem, “A Question of Time,” was one of only six nominated by Rattle for the Pushcart prize—her second nomination.

Dale is a native of Kansas, where she published her first poem and began the lifelong practice of keeping a journal. She received a BA in English at Ohio Wesleyan University and an MA in English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan. Settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she earned the PhD in Modern American Poetry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she then taught writing courses for non-regularly-admitted students for 26 years.

Since retiring, she has taught poetry workshops to at-risk teens, military veterans, and others. For the past six years, Dale has professionally mentored adult poets of all ages, both in the United States and abroad, from whom she receives much inspiration!
