John Gaumond of Worcester, Massachusetts has always loved words. His mother taught him that words had more than just meaning: they had power and feeling. His fifth-grade teacher Miss Butler required students to memorize James Russell Lowell’s “The First Snowfall,” which brought back the memory of his younger brother’s death. Gaumond is a passionate reader who devours language daily in newspapers and magazines. He is a poet, photographer, gardener, and professor emeritus at Fitchburg State University, and received the Jacob Knight Poetry Award in 2006. His poems and photographs have appeared in several publications.
