Terry Portillo lives with her rescue dog and her half-feral cat in a forest of houseplants at the southern tip of Tornado Alley. She holds a degree in English literature from the University of Houston and has served as a Writer-in-Residence for Writers in the Schools Houston. Her work has appeared in numerous literary magazines, both here and abroad. Four of her poems have received Pushcart Poetry Prize nominations. Portillo has read as a juried poet at the Houston Poetry Fest, and her work has been featured on the Houston Living Arts Broadcast. She keeps herself in tea, chocolate, and ink by teaching reading and writing to public school children.
