J.D. Smith’s fourth collection, The Killing Tree, was published in 2016, and in 2007 he was awarded a Fellowship in Poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts. His poems have appeared in publications including Able Muse, The Bark, The Dark Horse, The Formalist, Light, Measure, Nimrod, The Raintown Review and Think Journal. Smith’s other books include the poetry collection Glenn Danzig Carries Cat Litter, the fiction collection Transit (2022), the essay collection Dowsing and Science (2011), and the children’s picture book The Best Mariachi in the World (2008). He works as an editor in Washington, DC, where he lives with his wife Paula Van Lare and their rescue animals.
