Irene Mitchell, a teacher of writing for many years in New York City and rural New York State, facilitates an ad hoc series of workshops throughout the region on how to write better poetry. Mitchell was poetry editor of Hudson River Art magazine from its inception. She has published poems in literary reviews, journals, and anthologies in the U.S. and England, has been a juror in international poetry competitions, and featured reader of her work. Mitchell is known for her collaborations with visual artists and composers. Several of her poems have been executed as Broadsides and exhibited at regional galleries and libraries. Artist, publisher, architect Daniela Bertol created a total of seven broadsides inspired by her text, presented under the title Seduction. A rich selection of Mitchell’s poems was set to music for piano and mezzo-soprano by composer Dallas Cline, in an art-song cycle entitled Past All Doors, which had its recorded concert debut in Stuyvesant, New York.
