Among Anita Barrows’ awards in poetry are grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ragdale Foundation, the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, and publications by the Quarterly Review of Literature and the Riverstone Press. Her poetry chapbooks from Quelquefois Press in Berkeley are housed, among other places, in libraries in Baghdad, Kabul, and in The British Museum. Barrows’ translation, with Joanna Macy, from the German of Rilke’s Book of Hours was nominated for a PEN Translation Award, and they have collaborated on two other translations of Rilke’s work. Barrows has also done translations for British and American publishers of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and plays from French and Italian. She holds a PhD in psychology and is a professor of psychology at The Wright Institute, Berkeley. She maintains a private clinical practice in Berkeley, and she is a mother and grandmother and companion to a menagerie of dogs, cats and birds.
