Liza Sisk holds an MA in English from SUNY: Buffalo with a thesis on Spenser and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin with a dissertation on Yeats. After teaching English briefly at the University of Wisconsin and three other universities, Liza switched careers to Marketing Communications with GE and other Fortune 100 Companies (Westinghouse, Merck and Turner Corp.). She later acted as a consultant under the name ComSci Associates: Communications, Training and Productivity.
Since retiring, she published her first book of poems, Condominiums, Conch Shells and Consciousness, in the spring of 2007 with Llumina Press; a full-color book of poems and photographs, On Being Alive; a book for business writers, The Elements of Structure: The Step Beyond Style; and a children’s book, The Clay Birds of Jesus, in 2007-2008. A second edition of the book on writing will be coming out soon under the title Structure: The Step Beyond Style: Sequel to Strunk & White.
Literary magazines including Puerto Del Sol, Carquinez Poetry Review, and Hawai'i Review have published over twenty of her poems. She was a finalist for the North Carolina Poetry Society’s 2005 and 2009 Poet Laureate Award and won honorable mention for their 2006 and 2007 Poems in Traditional Forms Award. The W. B. Yeats Society of New York read her poem “Meditation on Yeats’ Epitaph” at their annual Lincoln Center meeting in 2005.
