After a glamorous childhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Steve Deutsch settled in State College, PA. He and his wife Karen have one son—the guitarist for the avant-garde group Gang Gang Dance. Steve has spent many years as a professor at Penn State University studying the fluid dynamics of heart assist pumps, mechanical heart valves and drag reduction. But since retirement, he has developed a love for poetry, and over the last few years, he has published in more than two dozen print and online literary journals. He was nominated for Pushcart Prizes in 2017 and 2018. His poetry collections Perhaps You Can and The Persistence of Memory were published in 2019 and 2020 by Kelsay Books.
