Robert Lowes is a former journalist whose first collection of poetry, An Honest Hunger (Resource Publications, an imprint of Wipf and Stock Publishers), came out in 2020. His poems have appeared in journals such as The New Republic, December, The Christian Century, Modern Haiku, Southern Poetry Review, Big Muddy, and The Journal of the American Medical Association. For eight years, he was a reporter for Medscape Medical News, an online publication for clinicians operated by WebMD. There he wrote about a plethora of subjects: the Affordable Care Act and its journey to the Supreme Court, infectious diseases, drug recalls, Medicare fraud, electronic health records, and the opioid crisis, to name a few. As a freelance journalist, he investigated white-supremacist groups and explored the lives of career waiters and bartenders. Seven years ago, he took up the guitar. He lives with his wife Saundra in suburban St. Louis, MO.
