After a glamorous childhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Steven Deutsch settled in State College, PA. He and his wife, Karen, have one son—the guitarist for the avant-garde group, Gang Gang Dance.
Steve spent many years as a professor at Penn State University studying the fluid dynamics of heart assist pumps, mechanical heart valves and drag reduction.
Since retirement, he has developed a love for poetry, and over the last few years, he has published in more than two dozen print and online literary journals. He was nominated for Pushcart Prizes in 2017, 2018, and 2021.
His chapbook Perhaps You Can and full-length books Going, Going, Gone and The Persistence of Memory were published by Kelsay Books. His third full-length collection Brooklyn was awarded The Sinclair Poetry Prize from Evening Street Press and published in April 2023.
