Steven M. Smith was born in Syracuse, New York. He was raised in a rural area a few miles north of the Village of Central Square, New York. He earned an MA from Binghamton University and a BA from the State University of New York at Oswego. He taught first-year writing as well as reading and study skills for many years at the State University of New York at Oswego, where he is presently the director of the Writing Center. His poetry has appeared in publications such as RATTLE, The Worcester Review, Ibbetson Street Press, Better Than Starbucks, The American Journal of Poetry, and Mudfish. Strongman Contest is Smith’s debut collection. He lives with his wife in North Syracuse, New York.
