Although she grew up in the Washington, D. C. area, Merryn Rutledge’s rural, southern roots show up throughout her work. Her poems have been published widely, and her book reviews have been featured in Tupelo Quarterly, Pedestal, and elsewhere. Writing poetry and reviewing new poem collections is Merryn’s third career. After completing a Master’s and BA with Honors in English from Smith College, Merryn taught literature and writing at Phillips Exeter Academy for many years. She then earned a doctorate in leadership and ran a leadership development and executive coaching firm. During this period, her essays based on field research on leadership were published in peer-reviewed journals, as books, and as book chapters. A transplant to Vermont and now eastern Massachusetts, she works for social justice causes, sings, dances, and enjoys the woods, marshes, and seashore.
