David Brendan Hopes’ first book of poetry, The Glacier’s Daughters (U. Mass), won the Juniper Prize and the Saxifrage Prize in 1980. He has since published five volumes of poetry, most recently Peniel with St. Julian’s Press. He is a successful playwright, with production, at one point of another, in many major American cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Seattle. In the last three years he has published three novels. The first, The Falls of the Wyona, won Red Hen Press’ Quill Prize. The second, Night Sleep, and the Dreams of Lovers, chronicles the Asheville underground art scene in the 90s. The third, The One with the Beautiful Necklaces, from Moonshine Cove Press, is an Appalachian family history with a large dose of Mountain Magical Realism.
