Kevin Shyne is a lifelong writer, whose career included 12 years as a freelance magazine writer and 23 years as a corporate speechwriter. Writing poetry in his spare time, he took a deeper dive into creative writing after his retirement in 2013.
Kevin and his wife Debi raised their two daughters in the Chicago suburbs, before moving to Princeton, a small town in North Central Illinois.
Kevin is active in the Illinois River Valley poetry community, taking part in poetry readings and critique workshops. In 2023, Kevin and a small group of volunteers organized Poetic Voices, showcasing the poetry of seven local poets. Previously the same group of volunteers organized The Festival of the Written Word, a one-day celebration of creative writing for students at eight high schools in Bureau County, Illinois.
Kevin writes poetry to discover, record, and reflect on observations that might otherwise be lost in the swirling current of day-to-day living. Kevin is the author of The Faith of Fragile Things, a collection of poems published in 2022 by Kelsay Books. His poems have also been published in numerous journals and recognized in poetry competitions sponsored by the Niles (Illinois) Public Library and The Bureau County Republican newspaper.
