Phyllis Stowell is Professor Emerita from Saint Mary’s College and Founding Member of the SMC MFA, and recently retired Chair, Friends of the C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. Her poetry appeared in over 40 reviews, both traditional and experimental. After her BA, she earned an MA in creative writing at SF State, where she studied with Robert Creeley, Stan Rice, and the Greek poet/writer Nanos Valaoritis. Later she earned a Ph.D. in Poetry and Depth Psychology. The marvelous poet Robert Hass was a participant in her Ph.D. Committee. Her residencies include Hedgebrook Farm, Djerassi, MacDowell Colony, Camargo Foundation (Cassis, France), Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and CAMAC, Centre d’Art (Marnay-sur-seine, France). She is a widow and lives in Berkeley, California, with Ravi, her black Persian cat.
