Suzanne Kamata attended Lexington High School with Sharon Faye “Shari” Smith, who was murdered in 1985 by Larry Gene Bell. This crime compelled the writing of “Waiting.” Kamata has also written several novels in prose, including Losing Kei (Leapfrog Press, 2008); Screaming Divas (Simon & Schuster, 2014); and The Baseball Widow (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing, 2021). She has a BA from the University of South Carolina and an MFA from the University of British Columbia. She lives in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, where she works as an associate professor at Naruto University of Education.
