Alarie Tennille was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia with a ghost, a genius older brother destined for NASA, and a yard full of cats. A Phi Beta Kappa, she graduated from the University of Virginia in the first class that admitted women. She met her husband, graphic artist Chris Purcell, in college. Alarie still misses the ocean but loves the writing community she’s found in Kansas City.

After a career ranging from technical editor to greeting card writer, Alarie is retired and has more time to focus on her poetry writing. She serves on the Emeritus Board of The Writers Place. Her last book, Running Counterclockwise (Aldrich Press, 2014), was a finalist for the 2015 Thorpe Menn Award for Literary Excellence. She is also the author of a chapbook, Spiraling into Control. Both books are available on Amazon.com.

Alarie has been nominated once for Best of the Net and three times for a Pushcart Prize. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including The Ekphrastic Review, Poetry East, I-70 Review, Midwest Poetry Review, Wild Goose Poetry Review, Southern Women’s Review, and The Whirlybird Anthology of Kansas City Writers. She hopes you’ll visit her at atenni@mac.com.
