John Harn grew up in Michigan, spent his adult life in Oregon, and wrote most of these poems in Galveston. For thirty years he worked with adult international students in a variety of roles including ESL teaching, curriculum design, program administration, student advising, and college admissions. His first full-length collection, Physics for Beginners, won the 2017 Blue Light Press Book Award and was published that year in San Francisco.

His poems have been in Carolina Quarterly, Chicago Quarterly, Denver Quarterly, Hotel Amerika, Miramar, New Orleans Review, Pleiades, Poetry East, Post Road, Prairie Schooner, South Carolina Review, Cloudbank, Spillway, and other journals. He has an MFA in Poetry from the University of Oregon and has taught poetry writing at the University of Oregon, Pacific University (in Oregon) and at the Oregon State Penitentiary. He’s the co-author of three daughters and a Grampa to Abe.
